Python Scripting for Workflows
Python scripting can be a powerful tool to automate and customize workflows in various applications. This guide will walk you through the basics of using Python scripts to enhance your workflow processes.
Every workflow stored as a .vsl file is actually a Python script. You can open and edit these files using any text editor or integrated development environment (IDE) that supports Python.
You can modify it in order to automate repetitive tasks, integrate with other software, or add new functionalities to your existing workflows. You can also enter Python commands directly into the Vistle Console to interact with your workflows in real-time.
Vistle extends Python with a module to access Vistle-specific functionality.
Typing help(vistle) in the Vistle Console will give you an overview of the available functions in the Vistle module.
These functions allow you to spawn modules, connect ports, modify parameters, and control the execution of your workflows programmatically.
Also, the render module COVER provides Python bindings.
To use these functions, import the coGRMsg module in your script.
You can use the function sendCoverMessage() to send these messages to the COVER module and control various aspects of the rendering process.
This can be combined with standard Python libraries to perform complex operations, such as file handling, data processing, and network communication.
